procedural principles and ethical standards
course outline and reading list
whereas legal ethics is a well established subject, the study of legal procedure on an academic basis is a relatively new discipline, and analysis of the relationship between the two even newer. procedure and ethics is a field in which there is a growing and fascinating literature. although this course is primarily based on the common law, comparisons will be made with other legal systems throughout the course; students will research and give presentations on how a wide variety of other countries approach the same or different problems. there will be some historical insights into how present rules have emerged. ethics can crop up anywhere in the course, as well as in those sections where there is a specific reference below. students will be encouraged to consider and debate various situations giving rise to ethical dilemmas.
